Preeti to Unicode Converter
Paste text typed in the Preeti font and get Nepali Unicode that shows correctly everywhere, without the font.
From Preeti to Unicode
Many older Nepali documents were typed with the Preeti font. Preeti stores each letter as an English key and only draws it as Nepali when the font is installed, so on another computer the text turns into gibberish such as g]kfn instead of नेपाल.
This converter maps every Preeti key to the right Unicode character and fixes the typing order Preeti uses: the ि that is typed before its letter, the reph (र्) typed after it, and letters built from two keys, such as km for फ. To type new Nepali text, use Nepali typing instead.
Preeti keyboard layout
Preeti follows the traditional Nepali typewriter layout, so the keys don't match English sounds. This is what each key types in Preeti, and what the converter turns it into.
Frequently asked questions
What is Preeti?
Preeti is an older Nepali font. Text typed in it is stored as English letters and only looks Nepali when the Preeti font is installed, so without the font नेपाल shows as g]kfn.
Why convert Preeti to Unicode?
Unicode Nepali shows correctly on every phone, computer and website without a special font, can be searched, and works in Facebook, email, Google Docs and government forms.
How do I convert my Preeti document?
Copy the text from your Word or other document, paste it into the left box, and copy the Unicode text from the right box. The conversion happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Why does some text come out wrong?
Only text typed in the Preeti font converts correctly. English words and text typed in other fonts such as Kantipur or PCS Nepali will turn into Nepali letters too, so convert only the Preeti parts.
