About the Nepali calendar
Nepal's official calendar is Bikram Sambat (BS), also called Vikram Samvat. It runs about 56 years and 8 months ahead of the English (Gregorian, AD) calendar, and its new year starts on 1 Baisakh, around 13–14 April.
Its twelve months are Baisakh, Jestha, Asar, Shrawan, Bhadra, Ashwin, Kartik, Mangsir, Poush, Magh, Falgun and Chaitra. Because they follow the sun, each month has between 29 and 32 days and the lengths change from year to year. Varpardo.com uses a table of month lengths for every year from 2000 to 2093 BS, checked against several independent sources.
In Nepali, the months are written बैशाख, जेठ, असार, साउन, भदौ, असोज, कार्तिक, मंसिर, पुष, माघ, फागुन and चैत. The days of the week are आइतबार (Sunday), सोमबार (Monday), मंगलबार (Tuesday), बुधबार (Wednesday), बिहीबार (Thursday), शुक्रबार (Friday) and शनिबार (Saturday). Saturday is the weekly public holiday in Nepal.
Because the months follow the sun rather than a fixed pattern, there is no simple formula for converting between the two calendars. The same English date falls on a different Nepali day from year to year, so a converter needs the month lengths of every year in between.

It covers 2000 BS (14 April 1943) to 2093 BS (April 2037). Month lengths after 2083 BS are provisional until the official calendar for those years is published.
How do I convert an English date to a Nepali date?
Open the Nepali date converter and choose the English (AD) date; the Bikram Sambat date and weekday appear straight away. You can also open any month of the Nepali calendar, where every day lists its English date.
Why is the Nepali date sometimes a day ahead of my date?
Varpardo shows today's date in Nepal Time (UTC+5:45). If you are west of Nepal, for example in Europe or America, Nepal reaches midnight before you do, so for part of the day the Nepali date is already the next day.
How many years ahead of AD is the Nepali calendar?
About 56 years and 8 months. From 1 Baisakh (mid-April) to the end of December the BS year is the AD year plus 57; from January to mid-April it is the AD year plus 56.
